The city is known for its rich history and the old town centre with canals, historic buildings and almshouses. Leiden has more than 2800 historic buildings and places of interest which can be reached either on foot, by bike or by boat, like: the Castle, the town hall, the St. Peters Church, the theatre and the Gravensteen.
The ‘Keukenhof’ is a large park (32 ha) with a lot of footpaths (15km)., fun for both young and old. The park is filled with blooming tulips, hyacinths, narcissus and other bulbous plants. A perfect place to relax and get inspired.
In Archeon in Alphen a/d Rijn you will experience three periods from the Dutch history: Prehistory, Roman empire and Middle Ages. All buildings (43, amongst others gates, bridges, huts, temples, monasteries, farmhouses etc.) in Archeon are reconstructions of buildings which have truly existed in the Netherlands. It concerns full-sized buildings.
The famous Madurodam is a Dutch miniature city in The Hague, scale: 1:25. In this miniature city you can form a picture of Dutch society by means of replicas of Dutch buildings.
