Meschede – Sauerland

In the hilly landscape of Sauerland, the millennial city of Meschede welcomes you to the Hennesee, an artificial lake 12 km long. Then, the shopping streets invite you to do some shopping. A cruise on the water, swimming in the water or Nordic walking around the water, in the Hennesee, you will spend fun days. Excursions: the Warstein Brewery (15 km), the Fort Fun amusement park near Bestwig (18 km) and the impressive castle of the historic town of Arnsberg (24 km).

Willingen – Sauerland

Recharge yourself completely or enjoy a fun day, explore the splendid nature on foot or by bike or enjoy local treats… Why choose? In Willingen, you’ll enjoy all this. Discover the underground world of Willingen’s mines, admire the impressive viaduct and taste a delicious piece of Christinen-Stollen. Experience an active day and cross a mountain bike at the Snow & Bike Factory or dive into the pleasures of the Lagunen-Erlebnisbad with its giant slide (125 m). Or do you prefer summer sledding, tennis, hang-gliding, miniature golf or bowling? Admire the Mühlenkopfschanze, one of the world’s greatest springboards, or the wild animals in the animal park. Glassware, brewery, slate quarries and the many welcoming Stubes are highly recommended. Excursions: Heringhausen to Diemelsee (17 km) or more fun at the Fort Fun amusement park near Bestwig (25 km) or Winterberg (29 km).

Schmallenberg – Sauerland

The Schmallenberger Sauerland, with its authentic half-timbered houses, offers a wide range of rural and cultural attractions. Discover in Schmallenberg the different charming villages, spread like a mosaic over the hilly landscape. The centuries-old Grafschaft (3 km), long considered the most beautiful village in Westphalia, is the ideal starting point for many walks. Visit the unique Brandholz cave for a healing air treatment and medicinal spring water in Nordenau (13 km), the pearl of the Hochsauerland. Leave for the Wilzenberg (658 m) and enjoy an unobstructed view of the’ Pays aux 1.000 Montagnes’. Or leave for Schanze (8 km) from where you can take the Rotharsteig, a path leading to the summit at 720 m above sea level. Tips: the Thikos Kinderland game complex in Schmallenberg and the Panorama-Park Sauerland Wildpark (25 km) and Fort Fun (29 km) amusement parks.

Winterberg – Sauerland

Are you tired of the daily hustle and bustle, but not the time for a long vacation? Take an escape to the famous Winterberg! Situated between the Ruhr and Lenne rivers and at the foot of the Kahler Asten, this highest town in northwestern Germany (700 m) is part of the highly wooded Rothaargebirge nature park. Exchange your car for a neighing’ two-horse’ on a caravan ride. Are you an adrenaline addict? Race on the summer toboggan run or on the asphalt of the Neuastenberg kart track. The Bikepark is for risk-taking only. If you’re not dizzy, head over to the Erlebnis Brücke Panorama to enjoy the fantastic views and thrills of the 40-metre suspension bridge or slide. The Kletterwald climbing course is not for slackers either. Winterberg’s outdoor swimming pools plunge you into the pleasures of water, while Fort Fun Park (19 km) invites you to an adventure in the Wild West. To follow the same theme: children can have fun at the Kinder Pony Ranch, with a real meadow and, let’s not forget, a tipi village. Stroll through the shopping streets of the historic centre and relax on a sunny terrace. Always with the motto’ sit back and relax’ you can sit back and relax in the small Jakobusbahn train and admire the beautiful sites without any effort. Silbach, one of the oldest villages, is about 6 km from the centre of Winterberg.

Wenden / Brün – Sauerland


Nature, relaxation and hospitality… In the charming villages of Wenden and Brün (6 km), nestled on the banks of the Bigge, you will spend wonderful holidays in the extreme south of Sauerland. Put on your walking shoes or ride your bike and go for long walks. Discover the folkloristic and cultural offer, admire picturesque churches and chapels or meet at the source of the Bigge in the woods near Römershagen (7 km). Explore the enchanting caves of stalagmites and stalactites in Attendorn (24 km). Those who prefer the open sky will head for Römershagen to follow the course of the Bigge towards one of Germany’s largest dam lakes: the Biggesee near Olpe (9 km). Enjoy the pleasures of shopping in Siegen (19 km) and its shopping mall City-Galerie.

Bad Wildungen – Sauerland

Spend your holidays in the picturesque thermal spa town of Bad Wildungen where Snow White would have lived. Let yourself be enchanted by the magnificent castles of fairy tales, which are like jewels adorning the hilly landscape. Walking in the treetops of trees is only possible in fairy tales? Nothing is less true! The TreeTopWalk is located on the banks of the Edersee (11 km away) in the Kellerwald nature park. Via the Walderlebnispfad – Eichhörnchenpfad (800 m long) you reach the Baumkronenweg Trail (250 m long) in the treetops from where you will have a unique view of the green foliage of the forest and the dark blue water of the artificial lake to Schloss Waldeck Castle. In addition, the Edersee will immerse you in a wave of pleasure: surfing, sailing, swimming, pedal boats… Experience even more pleasures of water in the Heloponte open-air swimming pool. In the Brunnenallee, the beating heart of Bad Wildungen, medieval half-timbered houses and small shops await you.

Diemelsee – Sauerland

Far from any hustle and bustle, between the green hills, pine forests, barrens and heath of Sauerland, lies Lake Diemelsee. This artificial lake with crystal clear water in the heart of the Diemelsee nature park is a paradise for fishermen, walkers and, in summer, water sports enthusiasts. Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, diving or simply swimming are just some of the possibilities. Beginners and experienced hikers alike will enjoy the marked walking trails, including the Diemelsteig (63 km, departure and arrival: Heringhausen) and the Uplandsteig (64 km, departure and arrival): Willingen) along the sweltering rivers, small villages such as Adorf or Flechtdorf with the Benedictine monastery, the source of the Diemel, mines and magnificent panoramas: the Clemensberg (720 m, with guestbook) and St Muffert (592 m, overlooking the Diemelsee). Mountain bikers will also have great challenges in this region. Suggestions: Eisenberg Castle in Korbach, Bad Arolsen with Residenzschloss Castle or the city of Obermarsberg.

Bad Laasphe / Feudingen – Sauerland

Welcome to Bad Laasphe, the city with its beautiful half-timbered houses cut in half by the Laasphe river. Admire the Wittgenstein Castle (3 km), nestled between Bad Laapshe and Feudingen (10 km), or the splendid nature during your walking or cycling tours. For aqualucian pleasures, visit the open-air swimming pools or Lake Perfstausee (6 km). Advice: The Lahn cycle route (240 km) between the source of the Lahn river and the mouth of the Rhine near Lahnstein. Excursions: the splendid cities of Marburg (32 km) and Siegen (39 km) and the popular city Winterberg (41 km).

Hallenberg – Sauerland

Hallenberg is a sunny village in Sauerland, in the Medebacher Bucht. This ornithological reserve is home to many animal and plant species. Put on your walking shoes or step on your bike and discover this beautiful region and its wonderful landscapes. At the old quarry, you can practice climbing. Immerse yourself in a fun wave at the open-air swimming pool Naturbad. Want to make an excursion? Winterberg (14 km) is the ideal place to shop or have fun on the toboggan run, the Neuastenberg kart track, the Bikepark or the Mountainboardpark. Enjoy a fun day at the Lagunen-Erlebnisbad or Willingen Animal Park (35 km).

Bad Sassendorf – Sauerland

At the wonderful Bad Sassendorf spa with its salt water springs, thermal baths and spa house, you will enjoy a relaxing holiday. Recharge yourself completely and then do a little window shopping downtown. Taste regional cuisine in one of the various restaurants. Put on your walking shoes or step onto your bike and discover this beautiful landscape. In the old town of Soest (5 km) you can admire the many churches and the historic town hall. In the Möhnesee (14 km), a multitude of activities await you. There’s nothing like a boat ride on this sparkling lake.
